Congratulations, first of all, to my fellow award recipients.

It's an honor to share this stage with you tonight.

I'm deeply humbled to follow in the footsteps of so many Latino and Latina giants who have contributed so much to the culture and the life of our nation.

Thank you to my friend, Toni Tijerino, for the work that you and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation do day in and day out to uplift and celebrate our community.

Thank you, Toni.

[Audience applause] I accept this award during one of the most consequential times of our generation.

Media in general, and news organizations in particular, have experienced seismic shifts.

We also faced unprecedented opportunity and obligation to be of service to our nation at this time.

And in these historic moments, we take very seriously our role as a leading news organization in keeping our country and thousands of communities informed through accurate and balanced news.

And we must do so without fear or favor, because a free, independent and accurate press is central to sustaining a healthy democracy.

[Audience applauds] Now, we also know that it is so essential for news organizations such as ours to do all that we can to build trust with our audiences.

The path to building that trust is not only accuracy and fairness, it's also making sure that we as a team, and in our content, we reflect the rich and beautiful diversity of the communities that we serve We rededicate ourselves to doing what we can because we know trust is so essential to our success, not only for our organization, but more broadly for our democracy.

This is my hope and this is our aspiration.

I accept this award with great humility.

It will serve as a potent remind of the responsibility to be of service to our community and our nation.
