In case of a power outage, a checklist can help keep track of what you have and what you need.

My checklist is a flashlight, extra batteries, a first aid kit, phone charger, and snacks.

When the power goes out, it can affect a lot of people.

Consider checking on your neighbors as another part of your checklist.

- So any chance you have something to charge a phone?

- [Freddie] Let's see.

(audience laughs) - I can't find a battery charger, sorry.

- Oh, thanks for looking.

- I wish we knew when the power would be back on.

- Mm, the storm did knock down a few power lines.

- Yeah, but they're not even in our block.

- May I?

Okay, this is the power plant.

That's the place where they generate electricity.

- Like solar panels?

- Well, fossil fuels mostly, but that's a whole other story.

- Right.

- Big transmission lines carry lots of electricity to substations.

Substations, they transform the electricity for different uses.

- Hm.

- Then distribute it.

- Like telephone poles.

I see those everywhere.

- Yeah, so power can reach homes, schools, and businesses.

- And if a windstorm knocks one down.

- No power.

- But power is everywhere.

Refrigerators use power.

- Phones.

- Medical equipment.

- Air conditioning.

- What if people can't get what they need?

- Hey, Freddie.

(paper rustles) - Good day, good neighbors.

- Kate, Don, make yourselves comfortable.

That was on my checklist.

(audience laughs) - Sure thing.

- Don picked up some ice so we could all use the cooler to keep things cold.

Without a working refrigerator, I was worried my insulin would go bad.

- And my birthday cake.

Icy weather is crazy.

We haven't been able to drive on the roads in a while.

- I'm doing great.

I got all the food and batteries I need to make it through.

- My family's stocked up a week in advance.

I'm doing well.

You heard from David recently?

- No, I haven't.

I hope he hasn't turned to a popsicle.

(both laughing) - [Both] Yeah.

- Let's go check up on him.

- [Freddie] People Power is thinking about your neighbors.

(upbeat music) (Bryce knocks) - Hey, guys.

- How you doing with all the ice?

- Not too well.

- What?

- You guys need to come take a look at this.

(bright music) (door creaks) Because of the icy roads, we have to be able to get food from the store.

And we were super unprepared.

- Well, that's not good.

Luckily, we can help with that.

- Yeah, just give us a moment.

(bright music) I'm gonna go to my house, you go to your house.

- Sounds like a plan.

(upbeat music) - [Freddie] People Power is lending a hand.

- [Nathaniel] With my parents' permission, I was able to donate this much.

(bell dings) - Same.

- [Freddie] People Power is when you notice, think, and do.

(eyes squeaking) - Wow, guys.

- Here you go, David.

I'll hope this last until the ice melts.
