Roz is the Fashion Editor of her very own fashion zine.

- Which I now know is short for magazine.

- She's also Hildegard's cousin and she's staying with her for a couple months.

- Roz is pretty well traveled too.

She's been to Jazz Fest in New Orleans.

- Well, I heard she hugged a panda in China.

- She's even had buffalo wings in Buffalo.

My dream.

- Right here in her zine, she writes, "I look for authentic experiences of culture everywhere I go.

That special something that makes a place uniquely itself."

- Wow.

- I wonder what makes our neighborhood uniquely itself.

- It's definitely not the buffalo wings.

What's local culture?

Local culture is the things that you do as a community together.

It could be celebrations, it could be activities, it could be things that you do with your friends, your family, your neighborhood, and your city.

Today my neighborhood is getting ready for the Mummers Parade.

It's a big celebration to start the new year.

It happens on January 1st where thousands of people parade in feathers, sequins and costumes.

We have a whole lot of people who come together and work together.

We have people who build the floats.

We have fabricators.

They can sew, they can weld metal to make the back pieces.

We also have people who take care of music.

They help push the floats.

They help make sure that all the performers have water.

We have people who like to be in front of the camera, and we have people who help behind the camera.

It's a big celebration and it's only in my neighborhood.

Local culture is whatever makes your neighborhood unique, happy to be a part of your community.

(audience cheering) - Okay, so whenever I'm working out a new idea, I like to make a mood board.

- Roz, I hate to disappoint you, but I just don't think there's lots of local culture happening here.

- Impossible.

I mean, I'm staring at a thing that makes your town unique right now.

- The garage?

- The Vator Gators.

I've never been to a town with such a random mascot or so much spirit for a local basketball team.

(bell dings) - We do get pretty into it.

- What about special events that only happen here?

- Hmm, we have the rubber ducky race that happens in the creek every year.

- Fab, that's something special.

(bell dings) Any arts in the area?

- Oh, well, we don't have like an opera house or anything.

- It doesn't have to be anything official.

- Hmm.

On Fridays, one of our neighbors goes outside and plays guitar for everyone going to school and work, and it's the perfect kickoff to the weekend.

- I love.

- Ooh.

We also have some great soft pretzel spots.

- Yum.

- In the 1800s, a bunch of German people moved to the area and they brought the soft pretzel with them.

- And then we took it to the next level with cheese sauce.

Innovation.

- Okay, so now what?

- Well, we've successfully named some of the things that make your town special.

- I guess we have, haven't we?

- Now it's time for phase two.

- About a half hour.
